Nooch : Asian noodle bar $$$ Comments : You can find all Nooch's noodle dishes cheaper somewhere else but you can't find them all in one place or in such a chic setting. Location : Wheellock Place, Orchard Road. Olio Dome : Soups, salads and sandwiches $$$ Comments : One of several Dome restaurants in this regional chain. Upscale cafe that puts its own twist on old favorites. Good food, comfortable atmosphere at reasonable prices. Location : Singapore Art Museum, Park Mall and other locations. Crystal Jade Kitchen: Cantonese cuisine $$$ Comments : There are quite a few Crystal Jade Restaurant scattered around Singapore and, at first blush, they may seem a bit on the expensive side but the quality of the ingredients is first rate and the outlet at Peranakan Place is open 24 hours - a nice bonus. Location : Peranakan Place, Shaw Centre and other locations. Tian Tian Chicken Rice: Hainanese Chicken Rice $ Comments : When you have only one item on the menu it had better be something special and the chicken rice at Tian Tian is. Hainanese chicken rice is a staple of Singapore culinary scene and people are passionate with everyone having their own favourite and this is ours. Excellent value for money. Location : Mexwell Food Court, Chinatown. Silk Road: Sichuan cuisine $$$ Comments : There are literally hundreds of superb Chinese restaurants in Singapore but this one catches our attention with its beautiful Euro-Zen interior and display kitchen where you can watch your handmade noodles being, well, handmade. Try the chinese tea. All in all excellent value for money. Location : Amara Hotel, Financial District. Al Jilani: Indian and Muslim cuisine $ Comments : Whether you're out clubbing or just looking for a quick snack late at night Al Jilani is great choice. Delicious home cooked food and open 24 hours with al-fresco dining at the corner of Bencoolen and Middle Road Al-Jilani features mostly Indian cuisine and specialises in Roti Prata (vaious Indian breads) at next to nothing. An absolute must try. Location : Corner of Bencoolen Street and Middle Road. Palm Garden : Cantonese cuisine $$$ Comments : Our friend Aileen swears by this place - chilli and peeper crabs steamed in a secret concoction of exotic spices served with a great view of the Singapore Skyline at night. Location : East Coast Highway, East Singapore. Fatty Wings : Cantonese cuisine $$$ Comments : Fatty Wings has moved and opened a larger, "nicer" establishment behind Sim Lim Square but not to worry, the food is every bit as good and the prices are still reasonable enough that Fatty Wing's keeps packing 'em in nightly. Location : Albert Complex, Heritage District. Noble House: Cantonese cuisine $$$ Comments : Tucked away on the 6th floor of the nondescript building in Singapore's Financial District, Noble House is unknown to all but a few tourists. Arguably the best Cantonese cuisine in Singapore. Popular wedding venue, reservations suggested. Location : UIC Bilding, 5 Shenton Way. Financial District
Food Courts & Hawker Stalls
Lau Pa Sat Festival Market : $$ Comments : One of Singapore's larger hawker stands ensures a wide variety to choose from and enough competition to keep prices down. Popular with locals working in the surrounding area during the day and tourists at night. Location : Raffles Quay, Financial District. Newton Circus : $$1/2 Comments : The venerable Newton Circus Hawker Centre is perhaps Singapore's most popular foodcourt attraction. This outdoor venue tends heavily towards Chinese seafood specialties. Terrific place to meet fellow travelers although the prices are a bit higher than other hawker stands. Location : Scotts Road, (Newton MRT). Maxwell Food Centre : $1/2 Comments : If you're in Chinatown with a group of friends and can't decide where to go, head over to Maxwell Centre and take a seat with the locals. Good selection, excellent prices. Location : South Bridge Road at Maxwell Road, Chinatown. Paradise Food Court: $$1/2 Comments : One of only a few hawker courts along the posh Orchard Road area, this small group of stalls covers the basics at extremely reasonable prices. A constant flow of locals attests to it's goodness. Location : Orchard Road near Thai Embassy. Cuppage Terrace : $$$ Comments : More a food court than a hawker stall, Cuppage Terrace has a small yet fine selection of international restaurants from Thai to Northern India and that range from reasonable to expensive. Location : Near Centre Point, Orchard Road. CHIJMES : $$$$ Comments : Utilizing what used to be a Convent (Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus) CHIJMES has be turned into a collection of chic and fun dining establishments. Want a to have a special night out but not sure where to go ? - CHIJMES is the place. You won't be disappointed by any of the restaurants. Location : Bras Basah Road at Victoria Street, Heritage District. Boat Quay : $$$ Comments : On Singapore River, Boat Quay is a collection of renovated shophouses with nearly every imaginable cuisine represented. Plenty of bars and discos as well make Boat Quay a tourist haunt and the prices reflect it. Nonetheless Boat Quay is one of those places everyone seems to visit. For a quieter night, go down one of the alleyways to Circular Rd. Location : Off South Bridge Road at Elgin Bridge.

Singapore Dining

Dining out in Singapore is a true delight. Sitting at the crossroads of Asia nearly every major ethnic cuisine can be found - and it will be authentic. But that's only part of the story, the other part, the number of restaurants is amazing. Singapore has perhaps the highest number of restaurants per capita anywhere. The sheer number of restaurants, ensures stiff competition that keeps prices down, quality up and innovation at a peak.

Such a environment is a boon to travelers - decent restaurants, food stalls and hawker stands are everywhere, prices are reasonable and hygiene is strictly monitored.

That said, being Singapore, a good majority of restaurants are of one Chinese cuisine or another. However here's a quick guide to some of Singapore's more popular food courts, restaurants and hawker stands just to get you started. No doubt you'll find many great places on your own - unfortunately we can't list every restaurant in Singapore but if we've overlooked your favorite place let us know and we take another look.
